I saw one guy had a nice bite on live bait just before I left, but I didn't have my small
hooks there to catch some livies.

The stump would have been a bit to big. Need to get some sabiki rigs for mullet.

Can somebody show me the live bait rig for cob ? I am always afraid that the live bait wraps around my line.

Was out there on Sunday as well, but blanked. Just millions of 10 cm stumps in between the kelp.
I left at 10 am on sunday. Does anybody know if anything came out after that ?

Spoke to my local Saldanha / Spreeuwalle contact. No cob the last 2 days for any of his contacts.
Big number of cob are gone, but some boats are getting one or two between 15 and 25 kg (Yes not lbs).

Also been getting big stumps of over 2 kg .

High tide is at 5 . A bit to early for me. Heard from some of the locals the cob bite 2 hours before and 2 hours after high.

Sun high is at 6. that might give me about 2 hours to fish.

Daisy's report

The Siily season is around the corner and already the caravan parks are fully booked,as well as all the holiday houses.Parks Board has an additional budget and also recruited 30 part time inspectors. So it`s that time of the year again...
Well last weekend saw plenty fish and more than plenty sharks ,from Smooths,Spotties and also some big Cows.A couple of Cob,close to 8kg,some Elf(returned) and a lot of Stumps in the 35 cm plus range. No Geelbek. This is what was predicted,as the water was 22 deg.Well the whole week it was like this and the water temp is now 20 deg as we had a fair amount of South East blowing. But this weekend is different...it`s Full Moon,Spring Tide, with low tide at 11h00.The punch line is that in these conditions one has to change you normal fishing spot to a place where the current is less strong.I would say, from a boat, don`t go to the Line, but rather consider the area next to the Island for Cob and remember this is just after high tide. For Elf,the season is now open,go down to the line and fish with the incoming tide up to high tide. From the shore, get your Elf just next to the Yacht Club,on the Northen side and for Cob,try Spreeuwalle early in the morning before sunrise.Stumps you have to be a bit wake up..first of all, they seem to prefer white mussel now. Then also note they do not bite..keep your line tight and when it get`s "heavy" then strike. They will take your bait off the hook without you knowing about it..the best way to describe it is,when you think there is a fish,or just imagine it,then strike and 8 out of 10 times you will have a Stump om the line..that`s how skelm they are in this warm water. If it`s Sharks you target, then the Baan is for you right now..and use chokka only. The pilchards we have are really rubbish...nobody can spent R110 on a 3,5kg sleeved box.so we buy the frozen 5kg R60 box..just wasting money actually as they are pap when bought.Maybe it`s a good idea to buy Pike, after all, pilchard sleeved is now more expensive on a per kg basis. There are also a lot of sea lice that likes the warm water and they take pap pilchard off in no time..so change your bait all the time.
I still don`t like the colour of the water,it`s that grey and black patches, but the locals think this is great..but I`m not so sure.
It`s going to be good weather this weekend,no strong winds and a pleasent 26 deg day temp.Again..Elf on the Line and north of the yacht club.cob at Spreeuwalle or next to the Island..Sharks at the Spit and Stumps...try to imagine...
Keep your Baan clean and God bless!
